Tehran, IRNA -- Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi says relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia can play an important and positive role in the regional and international arena.

Gharibabadi made the remarks upon his return from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, saying his trip to the kingdom was aimed at developing and strengthening bilateral relations, and assessing coordination and cooperation between the two governments.

He said he held talks with Saudi Deputy Minister for International Multilateral Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Rassi and discussed important regional and international issues, as well as legal and judicial cooperation between Tehran and Riyadh.

Stating that cooperation and good relations between two nations have positive regional and international effects, the Iranian diplomat voiced hope that Iran and Saudi Arabia—bound by many shared interests—can work together to advance their nations' common goals and contribute to peace and stability in the region.

The two sides also exchanged views on the role and effectiveness of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on various issues, including condemning the crimes committed by the Israeli regime in Gaza and its aggression elsewhere in the region.

Gharibabadi emphasized the importance of developing cooperation between the OIC countries on issues related to the organization and its members.
