On November 27, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi had a phone call with Diplomatic Adviser to the French President Emmanuel Bonne at the latter's request.
Wang Yi stated that the current international landscape is marked by turbulence and intertwined changes, with new problems and challenges emerging one after another. It is therefore necessary for China and France to maintain regular dialogue and strengthen strategic coordination. The strategic guidance of the two heads of state is of great importance. The two sides should deepen all-round mutually beneficial cooperation and elevate the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level, so as to inject fresh impetus into safeguarding multilateralism as well as reforming and improving global governance, and to demonstrate the responsibility of China and France as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Wang Yi expressed the hope that France will encourage the European Union (EU) to pursue a positive and rational policy toward China, uphold the basic positioning of partnership, and properly address economic and trade differences through dialogue and consultation, so as to promote the sound development of China-EU relations along the right track.
Wang Yi elaborated on China's position on the Taiwan question, stressing that provocative remarks on Taiwan by the incumbent Japanese leader are blatantly turning back the wheel of history and infringe on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and comprehensive strategic partners, China and France need to jointly safeguard the outcomes of the victory of World War II and firmly support each other on issues concerning their core interests. Wang Yi expressed the hope that France will continue to firmly abide by the one-China principle.
Emmanuel Bonne said that President Emmanuel Macron looks forward to an early visit to China to consolidate and deepen the friendship between the two heads of state and to conduct in-depth strategic communication on advancing France-China and EU-China relations and on jointly addressing global crises. Emmanuel Bonne expressed the belief that this visit will guide the high-quality development of bilateral relations and make new contributions to world peace and stability. France upholds the tradition of an independent foreign policy, firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and understands China's legitimate position on the Taiwan question. France looks forward to enhancing mutual trust and strengthening dialogue and coordination with China to jointly address challenges such as global governance and economic imbalances. Stressing the importance of the sound development of EU-China relations, he said that France is willing to play a positive role in EU-China dialogue and cooperation based on sound France-China relations.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis. Emmanuel Bonne briefed Wang Yi on France's position. Wang Yi said that China supports all efforts dedicated to peace, supports reaching a peace deal that is comprehensive, lasting and acceptable by all relevant parties, and supports building a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture. China is ready to maintain communication with France on this matter.
