A state funeral was conducted for the recently-deceased advisor to the central committee of the North Korean Social Democratic Party Kim Byung-shik, also former deputy chairman of the Federation of North Korean Residents in Japan and Vice President of North Korea. In addition, a propaganda blitz was conducted in the media to establish justification of Kim Jong-il's , and strengthen and renew the national ideological campaigns.

North Korea also formally expelled Karen Han, a Korean-born US citizen arrested and held under unspecified charges, on July 20th, and without further explanation of the nature of the charges she was being held under.

The ROK government's `policy of inclusion' was denounced as a `a policy of separation and direct challenge to popular wish for unification' in connection with Taiwan's declaration of a 'Two China' policy.

Concerning efforts in the ROK to reevaluate Cho bong-am, executed following the Party of Progress incident in 1959, spokesperson for North Korea's National Front commented that `Cho's efforts were a justified struggle for national unification for which we reserve our wholehearted support'.
