Cuba recently said that the US is pressuring multiple countries in an attempt to change their voting stance on the UN General Assembly draft resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba." Furthermore, the US is pushing other countries to stop providing resources to Cuba's power system. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun urged the US to lift the comprehensive embargo against Cuba as soon as possible.
Guo said that the comprehensive embargo imposed by the US on Cuba for over 60 years has caused profound suffering to the Cuban people. Instead of reflecting on its actions, the US has intensified its efforts, engaging extensively in coercive diplomacy. This seriously violates international law and the fundamental norms of international relations, contravenes international humanitarian principles, and openly places the US on the opposite side of fairness and justice. This will inevitably face widespread opposition from the international community.
China firmly opposes the US blockade and sanctions against Cuba, Guo said.
Since 1992, China has consistently voted in favor of the resolution initiated by Cuba at the UN General Assembly on ending the US embargo against Cuba for 32 consecutive times. Nearly 190 countries worldwide support this resolution, making the general trend of public opinion clear. China will continue to steadfastly support the Cuban people in pursuing a development path suited to their national conditions, safeguarding their sovereignty and dignity, and opposing external interference and blockade, Guo said.
We urge the US to lift the comprehensive embargo against Cuba as soon as possible, remove Cuba from the so-called "State Sponsors of Terrorism" list, and take more actions conducive to improving Cuba-US relations and promoting regional peace and stability.
