Macau Monthly: Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi visited Russia. Can you share with us more information? How does China view the visit?

Lin Jian: On December 2, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi co-chaired the 20th round of China-Russia strategic security consultation with Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council Sergei Shoigu and met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. The two sides had a broad-based and in-depth communication on bilateral relations and major issues concerning strategic security interests. New common understandings were reached and strategic mutual trust was further enhanced. The two sides agreed to make full effort to implement the important common understandings reached between the two presidents and to achieve higher-quality development in bilateral relations and China-Russia strategic coordination. For anything specific on the visit, I'd refer you to China's readout.

Beijing Youth Daily: The United States announced on November 29 that the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela should be considered closed in its entirety. The Venezuelan government issued a statement strongly condemning the remarks by the U.S., stating that such comments violate the Charter of the United Nations and the principle of international law. Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region expressed opposition to the U.S.'s remarks. What is China's comment?

Lin Jian: China stands against any action that violates the purposes and principles of the UN Charter or infringes on countries' sovereignty and security, and opposes external interference in Venezuela's domestic affairs under any pretext. China calls on all parties to keep Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace and prevent further escalation.

Reuters: A Taiwan official said that it looks forward to reestablishing ties with Honduras and has been in touch with both presidential candidates ahead of their election. Does the Foreign Ministry have any comment?

Lin Jian: The one-China principle is the political foundation and fundamental prerequisite for China-Honduras relations. Over the past two years and more since the two countries established diplomatic ties, the relationship has grown rapidly with fruitful cooperation in various fields. China-built agricultural technique schools were completed. Procurement agreements on over 10,000 tons of whiteleg shrimps were signed by Chinese and Honduran companies. Tobacco from Honduras entered the Chinese market. In 2024, China's imports of Honduran coffee increased by 14 times year on year. China also offered Honduras coffee greenhouses and plantation toolkits, and provided multiple batches of humanitarian supplies when Honduras was hit by hurricane, flooding and other disasters. Cooperation in human resource training, government scholarship, tourism and other fields gives a strong boost to the capacity building in long-term development of Honduras. These achievements fully demonstrate that the relationship has delivered tangibly to the Honduran people and serves the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries and two peoples.

"Taiwan independence" separatist activities go in the opposite direction of where the arc of history bends. It is doomed to fail.

RIA Novosti: It's reported that the European Commission this week plans to make a legal proposal to use frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine by providing around 140 billion euros in the form of loan. How does China see these actions impacting the investment climate and international confidence in Europe's financial and banking system?

Lin Jian: China opposes unilateral sanctions that violate international law or have no authorization of the UN Security Council. Parties need to create a positive atmosphere and favorable conditions for promoting talks for peace and the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, instead of doing the opposite.

AFP: The UK government has again delayed a decision on whether to allow China to build a new embassy complex in London. The deadline had previously been extended until December 10 of next week and has now been pushed to January 20. Does the Foreign Ministry have a comment on this?

Lin Jian: China's application for the project has long been completed. There is no reason for the UK to again delay the approval. The so-called argument raised by the UK side is just untenable. China is gravely concerned and strongly deplores this. We will seriously assess the situation and defend our legitimate interests.

Bloomberg: Donald Trump signed into law a bill that calls on the Department of State to regularly review U.S.-Taiwanese relations and look for ways to deepen the U.S. and Taiwan relationship. Does the Chinese Foreign Ministry have any comment?

Lin Jian: China firmly opposes official exchanges between the U.S. and China's Taiwan region in any form. This position is consistent and clear.

The Taiwan question is at the core of China's core interests and is the first red line that must not be crossed in China-U.S. relations. The one-China principle is the political foundation of China-U.S. relations. The U.S. government made a clear commitment in the China-U.S. Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations—"The United States of America recognizes the Government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legal Government of China. Within this context, the people of the United States will maintain cultural, commercial, and other unofficial relations with the people of Taiwan." China urges the U.S. to earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, approach the Taiwan question with extra prudence, stop U.S.-Taiwan official exchanges, and stop sending any wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
