On November 22, 2025 local time, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Dushanbe.
Emomali Rahmon asked Wang Yi to convey his warmest greetings to President Xi Jinping, noting that China is Tajikistan's friendly neighbor and close partner, and that developing relations with China has always been a top priority for Tajikistan. In recent years, the Tajikistan-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has grown rapidly. The two sides have carried forward the fine tradition of mutual trust, mutual respect, and mutual support, deepened good-neighborliness and friendship, and advanced mutually beneficial cooperation, achieving fruitful cooperation outcomes across a wide range of areas, including politics, economy and trade, security, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. China has become Tajikistan's largest trading partner and biggest source of investment, and Tajikistan is full of confidence in the prospects of bilateral relations. Tajikistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle. China plays an increasingly important leading role in international affairs. The Global Governance Initiative put forth by President Xi Jinping is of great significance and will help lay the foundation for improving the world's political and economic order. Tajikistan actively supports the initiative and stands ready to work with China to jointly implement the four major global initiatives, strengthen coordination and cooperation within the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the China-Central Asia mechanism, safeguard common interests of both sides, and uphold international fairness and justice.
Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's sincere greetings to President Emomali Rahmon, noting that the two heads of state have maintained close exchanges and strategic communication, built strong mutual trust and deep friendship, and reached important common understandings on jointly building a China-Tajikistan community with a shared future, jointly steering bilateral relations onto the fast track. The political mutual trust between China and Tajikistan has reached new heights, bilateral trade has maintained a growth momentum, international cooperation between the two countries has achieved fruitful outcomes, and the friendship between the two peoples has grown stronger over time, making the two countries truly comprehensive strategic partners. China is Tajikistan's most trustworthy partner and most reliable friend. China is ready to work with Tajikistan to implement the common understandings reached by the two heads of state, and deepen and solidify the China-Tajikistan comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era.
Wang Yi briefed Emomali Rahmon on the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and stated that China's high-quality development and high-standard opening up will bring more development opportunities and broader cooperation prospects for Tajikistan and other countries. The two sides should expand trade and investment cooperation, implement the new Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, and explore cooperation in emerging areas such as the digital economy and green energy. The two sides will vigorously advance cooperation in the mining sector to help Tajikistan transform its abundant resources into driving forces for national development. The two sides will deepen connectivity by expediting the upgrade of the China-Tajikistan Highway, to assist Tajikistan in turning itself from a "land-locked country" into a "land-linked country". The two sides will also strengthen people-to-people bonds and ensure the success of Confucius Institutes, Luban Workshop, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Center, so as to train more professional technicians for Tajikistan.
Wang Yi noted that China and Tajikistan are as close as lips and teeth, sharing weal and woe. The two countries took the lead in building a community of security and were the first to sign a memorandum of understanding on jointly advancing cooperation under the Global Security Initiative, fully demonstrating the high level of political mutual trust between the two countries. China is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Tajikistan within the SCO and the China-Central Asia mechanism, jointly combat the three forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism, and build a solid security foundation for the development and revitalization of both countries.
On the same day, Wang Yi also held the First China-Tajikistan Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue with Tajikistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
