In response to a media inquiry regarding that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claimed the US and China could sign a trade agreement as soon as next week, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday that leaders of China and the US discussed issues such as economic and trade relations and agreed to enhance cooperation in areas including economy and trade during the Busan meeting, and the competent Chinese authorities also briefed on the outcomes of the economic and trade consultations in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Guo emphasized that the essence of China-US economic and trade relations is mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. Just like President Xi said the business relationship should continue to serve as the anchor and driving force for China-US relations, not a stumbling block or a point of friction.

The Chinese side is willing to work with the US to implement the important consensus reached by the two leaders, in the spirit of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit, continuously shorten the list of problems and lengthen the list of cooperation through dialogue and negotiation, promote the healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-US relations, injecting more certainty and stability into the world, Guo said.
