On October 27, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Wang Yi said that China-U.S. relations have a bearing on the world, and a sound, stable and sustainable bilateral relationship serves the long-term interests of both countries and meets the common expectations of the international community. President Xi Jinping and President Donald J. Trump are both global leaders. Their long-term interactions and mutual respect have become the most valuable strategic asset in China-U.S. relations. Earlier, China-U.S. economic and trade ties have encountered new frictions. Through the economic and trade talks in Kuala Lumpur, the two sides clarified their positions, enhanced mutual understanding, and reached a framework consensus on addressing the current urgent economic and trade issues on an equal footing. This once again proves that it is possible to stabilize and advance the bilateral relationship as long as the two sides fully implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, uphold the spirit of equality, respect and mutual benefit, stay committed to resolving differences through dialogue, and avoid resorting to pressure. Wang Yi expressed the hope that the two sides will work in the same direction to pave the way for high-level interactions between China and the United States, and create conditions for the development of bilateral relations.

Marco Rubio said the U.S.-China relationship is the most important bilateral relationship in the world, and he looks forward to sending a positive signal to the world through high-level interactions.
