Samir Abd al-Aziz al-Najim
Samir Abd Al-Aziz Al-Najim was captured on April 17, 2003 by Iraqi Kurds near the northern city of Mosul and later handed over to US troops.
Al-Najim was the Ba'ath Party regional command chairman for East Baghdad and, as such, was believed by CENTCOM officials to have "first-hand knowledge of the Ba'ath Party central structure".
Al-Najim was previously Iraq's oil minister; apost he held until 2003. He also held for several years after the 1991 Gulf War, the position of chief of staff to Saddam Hussein.
