Operation Alliance
Operation Alliance prepares border control strategies and coordinates drug enforcement activities of 17 federal and numerous state and local law enforcement agencies combating drug smuggling. The primary smuggling route across the southwest border is by land. In spite of law enforcement agencies' efforts to counter drug smuggling, the flow of drugs between the ports of entry along the southwest border continue due to vast open areas and a relatively low law enforcement presence. Operation Alliance successes have been insignificant, and its efforts are only a minor irritant to the smugglers.
Requests for military counterdrug support from federal agencies are prioritized by law enforcement through Operation Alliance, which is collocated with JTF-6. Requests by state and local agencies are prioritized by the state lead law enforcement agency where the support is to occur.
In the planning stages of the raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, the ATF requested Special Forces assistance from the Department of Defense. This request was forwarded through Operation Alliance and Joint Task Force 6.
