NATO Deputy Secretary General attends OSCE Ministerial Council

On 4 December 2025, NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska participated in the 32nd Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) held in Vienna, Austria, under the Finnish Chairpersonship in Office.
The Deputy Secretary General used the opportunity to underline the importance of the NATO-OSCE partnership and emphasised the OSCE's long-held and valuable place in the Euro-Atlantic security architecture and the rules-based international order.
She recalled that the values of the 1975 Helsinki Final Act marked a major turning point in the Cold War and still matter today. The current and future challenges to the security impacting the OSCE region and beyond stem from violations of those founding principles.
"With its brutal war against Ukraine, as well as aggressive actions against its neighbours and other participating States, Russia has broken the commitments made in Helsinki 50 years ago", she said.
The Deputy Secretary General highlighted "the importance of conventional arms control regimes. Ones that are respected. That reduce military risk, prevent misperceptions, build trust, and rebuild confidence."
On the margins of the meeting, she met OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, and Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Tomoaki Shimada of Japan. She also briefed the Allied Bilateral Ambassadors in Austria on NATO's priorities following the Hague Summit, at a meeting organised by the NATO Contact Point Embassies, Bulgaria and Croatia.
