Settler attacks 'part of Israeli policy to terrorize, displace Palestinians' in West Bank: Hamas

The Hamas resistance movement has strongly condemned the ongoing assaults by settler groups targeting Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, calling them as a deliberate escalation and an official Israeli strategy aimed at intimidating and displacing Palestinians.

Senior Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi said in a statement on Saturday that such daily attacks, property theft, and the unchecked actions of settler groups throughout the West Bank, combined with the Israeli army's relentless offensives in the northern governorates, reveal the extent of terrorism being carried out under direct political directives from the extremist Israeli administration.

Mardawi noted that the Tel Aviv regime would ultimately fail to enforce its colonial schemes, no matter the scale of its aggression and violations.

The remarks came on the same day that ten Palestinians were injured in a settler attack on the Khalil al-Louz area, east of Bethlehem city in the southern West Bank.

According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), one civilian sustained a live bullet injury to the thigh, and three others suffered bruises from beatings. The trio was transferred to hospital to receive medical treatment, while the rest were treated on site.

A security source told the Palestinian news agency WAFA that the settlers attempted to set fire to a house in the area, but residents managed to confront them.

In a related incident, six Palestinians, including a pregnant woman, were injured on Saturday evening after Israeli settlers attacked residents in the Hawara area near the town of Halhul, north of al-Khalil.

Local media cited unnamed sources as saying that the armed settlers, protected by Israeli soldiers, attacked homes in the area, causing injuries and bruises to six members of the same family.

The victims received on-site medical treatment, and the pregnant woman was transferred to the Red Crescent Hospital in Halhul for further care.

Palestinians in the West Bank have been subjected to escalating Israeli military actions and settler violence, amid the genocidal war in Gaza that has killed nearly 70,000 people in the coastal territory since October 2023.

Rights organizations have been cautioning for months that Palestinians in the West Bank are at increasing risk of ethnic cleansing due to the ongoing violence.

In July 2024, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared Israel's extended occupation of historic Palestine to be unlawful.

The ICJ urged the removal of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East al-Quds.

While the court's advisory opinion is not legally binding, it holds considerable political significance as it marks the first occasion the ICJ has addressed the legality of the 57-year-long occupation.
