MANILA -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed his full support for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), lauding its unrelenting efforts to safeguard communities and maintain peace across the country.
Marcos delivered the assurance on Friday during his visit to the Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) in Zamboanga City, where he received a security briefing on the latest developments in the Zamboanga Peninsula and nearby areas.
A video of the meeting was shared by state-run Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) on a Facebook post on Saturday.
During the briefing, Marcos commended WESMINCOM's operational accomplishments, saying his administration would continue to provide the AFP with the necessary resources and policy support to sustain current peace and order initiatives.
He emphasized that strengthening inter-agency security coordination remains a priority to ensure stability in Western Mindanao, which hosts several critical security operations due to persistent threats from criminal and extremist groups.
Marcos underscored the importance of maintaining high morale within the military, noting that the government remains committed to improving troop welfare, operational capabilities, and overall readiness, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a separate statement.
"Ipinahayag din ni PBBM sa mga opisyal at sundalo ang buong suporta at pasasalamat ng pamahalaan sa kanilang patuloy at tapat na serbisyo (PBBM also expressed to the officers and soldiers the government's full support and gratitude for their continued and loyal service)," the PCO said.
On Friday evening, Marcos also hosted a traditional dinner at Malacañan Palace for members of the AFP Council of Sergeants Major.
During the gathering, he urged the military to remain united and focused on its mandate to protect the country amid attempts to sow division through misinformation and disinformation. (PNA)
