Defence Minister's meeting with his counterpart from Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Sarajevo

On Thursday, November 27th, Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, had a bilateral meeting with his counterpart from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zuka Helez, as part of the South-Eastern Defence Ministerial (SEDM) Meeting in Sarajevo.

During the talks, the officials addressed topics regarding the security situation in the Black Sea and the Western Balkans region, as well as the cooperation between Romania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, including from the perspective of NATO and EU's agenda. The Romanian official also congratulated Minister Helez for the excellent organization of the Annual SEDM Meeting in the Defence Ministers format.

With reference to the Western Balkans, Minister of National Defence stressed the role of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the security environment architecture of this region of strategic importance for the Euro-Atlantic security, and highlighted Romania's commitment to projecting stability in the region.

In this context, the Romanian official reaffirmed our country's support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path, as well as Romania's sound commitment at operational level, to maintaining security in the Western Balkans, both within the European Union mission, EUFOR ALTHEA, including by holding command of the Force throughout 2025, and within the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR.

The two officials welcomed the recent entry into force of the Defence Cooperation Agreement, a paper that offers increased opportunities for the development and enhancement of bilateral cooperation. Minister of National Defence emphasized the importance of maintaining the political-military dialogue, in order to streamline and harmonize joint efforts at defence level, in the context of global and regional challenges posed to security.

At the end of the meeting, Ministers Moșteanu and Helez agreed to continue the dialogue at experts level in order to identify projects of common interest in the context offered by the Agreement.
