In response to an official invitation from the National Electoral Commission of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr Hissein Brahim Taha, delegated an observer mission from the General Secretariat, led by Dr Mahmat A. Koulbou, Acting Director of African Affairs. The mission was tasked with monitoring the legislative and presidential elections conducted on November 23, 2025.

This mission aligns with the OIC's strategic commitment to bolster democratic norms and enhance electoral transparency within its Member States.

During their tenure, the observer team engaged in a comprehensive meeting with the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, during which they conveyed the Secretary-General's greetings and best wishes for a successful electoral process. The chairman provided an in-depth briefing covering critical components of the electoral framework, including legal parameters, organisational logistics, and operational readiness.

The mission reiterated the OIC's dedication to supporting its Member States in conducting free and transparent elections. This commitment is guided by the OIC Charter and is reinforced by resolutions from summit conferences and the Councils of Foreign Ministers, recognising that fostering democratic governance is essential to ensuring political stability and facilitating sustainable development.
