The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah has condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli regime's assassination of a municipal council member in southern Lebanon, describing it as part of a concerning pattern of attacks targeting municipal employees in recent days.
Hezbollah made the remarks in a statement on Sunday, after Hussein Yassine Hussein, a member of the municipality council in the town of Hula, was targeted by an Israeli airstrike.
"This attack, carried out on Independence Day, November 22, 2025, confirms the enemy's intentional intent to send a direct aggressive message to the Lebanese government and its local institutions. It represents an attempt to paralyze municipal functions and weaken their capabilities by systematically targeting council members, especially in southern Lebanon," the statement read.
Hezbollah said this incident marks the fourth such attack in a short period, illustrating a calculated policy of Israeli terrorism directed against civil society representatives.
The group also denounced the attack as a clear violation of international law and existing agreements, urging the Lebanese government to take firm steps to prevent further assaults.
Hezbollah also criticized the lack of effective action by the international community, raising doubts about its dedication to protecting civilians and local government officials.
It also said targeting civilian personnel is crossing a "red line," underscoring that any attempt to intimidate municipal staff will only reinforce their determination to fulfill their public responsibilities.
"We will not allow the enemy to turn these attacks into established facts or a standard policy."
Israel and Hezbollah reached a ceasefire agreement that took effect on November 27, 2024. Under the deal, Tel Aviv was required to withdraw fully from the Lebanese territory, but has kept forces stationed at five sites, in clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the terms of last November's agreement.
Since the implementation of the ceasefire, Israel has violated the agreement multiple times through repeated assaults on the Lebanese territory.
Lebanese authorities have warned that the Israeli regime's violations of the ceasefire threaten national stability.
