On Sunday, President Gitanas Nausėda took part in a ceremonial formation in Cathedral Square to mark the Day of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

Addressing the participants of the celebration, the President noted that Lithuanian Armed Forces Day unites two different eras.

"We proudly remember the Independence Struggles, during which our state grew, matured and was tempered. We bow to those who bravely stood to defend our freedom in 1918, as well as to those who today continue the work begun by their predecessors," the President said.

The President noted that, just like in those turbulent times long past, Lithuania again feels a growing threat in its neighborhood.

"We see how lies, hatred and violence once again seek to undermine the world order, and we stand in the path of this wave. Today, as 107 years ago, we must act swiftly and precisely, strengthen national defense, and prepare for any challenges," the President said.

He emphasized that today our state is much stronger and more resilient, and the Lithuanian Armed Forces are modern, well-prepared and integrated into NATO structures.

"Most importantly, even in these turbulent times, the bond between the Lithuanian people and their Armed Forces remains unbroken. Society sees the efforts of the army, trusts it and supports investment in national defense. There is a growing understanding that the defense of the country must be total and involve every citizen," the President said.

The President thanked the people of Lithuania for their support of the Armed Forces and wished the soldiers to uphold the trust of the nation with determination and professionalism, and to stand firm in the defense of freedom.
