Iran has strongly condemned Israel's recent deadly attack on the largest Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, holding the US directly responsible for its silence in the face of the regime's continued aggression and violations of a ceasefire.
At least 14 people were killed and several others injured in the Israeli strike on the Ain al-Hilweh camp near Sidon in southern Lebanon late Tuesday.
In a statement on Wednesday, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the regime's savage attacks on Lebanon violate the most basic principles of international law and the UN Charter.
He added that the Israeli regime has repeatedly violated a ceasefire agreement it signed with the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah in November 2024.
Baghaei emphasized that the United States is directly responsible for the continuation of the Tel Aviv regime's crimes and atrocities against Lebanon and other regional countries.
The spokesperson also condemned the silence of the ceasefire guarantors, especially the United States, which he said affirmed Israel's continued acts of military aggression against Lebanon.
He called on the UN and the international community to take serious steps to end the regime's crimes and hold its criminal officials accountable.
Baghaei also expressed Iran's full solidarity with the Lebanese government, people, and resistance.
Israel's military claimed the attack targeted "a Hamas training compound" that was being used to plan and carry out attacks against the regime.
Hamas rejected the allegations as "a blatant lie aimed at justifying the massacre," saying that it had "no military installations in the Palestinian camps in Lebanon" and that the targeted site was merely "an open sports field."
According to Lebanese authorities, Israeli attacks since October 2023 have killed approximately 4,000 people and displaced more than 1.2 million residents across the country.
