Reports have surfaced indicating an uptick in activity by Islamist terrorist groups within the Confederation of Sahel States (CSS), encompassing Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Particularly troubling are the efforts by militants of the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims to enforce a fuel blockade on Malian residential communities.
We have observed a broad, externally coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at destabilising the situation in the allied nations of the Sahel Trio, which have opted for an independent foreign policy path. This subversive activity, driven by short-term geopolitical and economic ambitions, primarily inflicts harm upon civilian populations.
We reaffirm our commitment to the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the CSS member states. We urge the international community to extend its support to the Confederation's endeavours in countering the terrorist menace and fostering socioeconomic development in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
