Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has urged the people of the United States to unite with Venezuela for the peace of the Americas.

He made the remarks in the middle of a mass rally on Youth Day in Caracas on Thursday amid heightened tensions with the US.

On the issue of possible aggression by the US, the Venezuelan President told CNN, "We are focused on the people, governing with peace, with these young people building."

He further sent a message to the people of the US, saying they should "unite for the peace of the continent, no more endless wars, no more unjust wars, no more Libya, no more Afghanistan."

Asked if he had a message for US President Donald Trump, Maduro replied, "Yes peace, yes peace."

Addressing the rally, he called upon his country's young population to resist the threats of invasion from the US.

Speaking a day earlier in Cagua, Maduro dismissed US claims and mocked the idea that Venezuela possessed "nuclear, biological or chemical weapons," calling it an invented pretext "to attack and destroy nations that stand up to imperialism."

He added that the CIA was recycling the same propaganda once used against Iraq, Cuba, and Libya, warning Washington about its military operations in the Caribbean.

The Venezuelan head of state vowed to defend his nation's sovereignty through a "perfect fusion" of the people, military, and police, declaring, "We have never threatened anyone — but we will defend our peace, our dignity, and our truth."

Since August, the US has deployed a fleet of vessels and thousands of troops to the Caribbean, under the pretext of combating Latin American drug cartels.

The US says it has carried out at least 20 strikes against alleged drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific, killing 80 people. Rights groups have slammed the attacks as extrajudicial killings.

Later in September, five F-35 fighter jets were spotted landing in Puerto Rico following US President Donald Trump's recent order to deploy 10 of these stealth fighters to bolster military presence in the Caribbean.

The US has also deployed the USS Gerald R. Ford, the world's largest aircraft carrier, and five accompanying destroyers to Latin America, prompting Venezuela to mobilize its troops and deploy warships, drones, and aircraft.

While rejecting the accusations of involvement in drug trafficking, the Venezuelan President has been emphasizing that Washington is using narcotics allegations as a pretext to pursue Washington's plan for a "regime change" and seize control of Venezuela's oil wealth.
