Gaza's Health Ministry says the death toll has climbed to 69,169, with another 170,685 wounded since the beginning of Israel's genocidal war in October 2023.
The latest jump in deaths on Saturday comes as more bodies are recovered under the rubble, nearly a month after a ceasefire between the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and the Israeli regime in the Gaza Strip took effect.
It is also because of the identification of previously unidentified bodies amid continued efforts by authorities in Gaza to recover bodies in widespread destruction using limited equipment and resources.
The health ministry reported that 284 more individuals were recently included in the overall count following the confirmation of their identities.0
Over the past three days, it added, 10 bodies were brought to Gaza hospitals - nine retrieved from under the rubble and one newly killed - along with six injured.
According to the ministry, a large number of the Palestinian people remain missing in the vast destruction from Israel's war.
Israel on Saturday returned the bodies of 15 Palestinians to Gaza, a day after resistance groups returned the remains of a captive to Israel under the terms of the US-brokered ceasefire agreement in the two-year war.
As part of the deal, Israel must return the remains of 15 Palestinians for each dead Israeli captive.
The Al-Nasser Hospital in the city of Khan Younis confirmed that 15 bodies were received at the facility.
Israel confirmed the remains given back Friday night were of an Israeli man, identified as Lior Rudaeff, who died in the war, according to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.
As part of the ceasefire deal, Israel will also release nearly 2,000 Palestinian abductees held illegally in Israeli jails in exchange for fewer than 50 captives—most already killed by Israeli bombs.
Last week, The Lancet medical journal published the findings of a research, calculating that each of the 60,199 Palestinians killed between October 7, 2023, and July 31, 2025, resulted in an average loss of 51 years of life.
