Tehran, IRNA -- The United Nations, in its latest report, has announced an increase in the number of attacks by Israeli military and settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and the destruction of their homes, actions that have intensified concerns regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state.

According to Reuters, the United Nations announced on Friday that Israeli settlers carried out at least 264 attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank in October, the highest number of recorded attacks in a single month since the UN began monitoring such events in 2006.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) also warned about the escalation of violence, stating that these attacks, which have resulted in Palestinian casualties, injuries, and property damage, have occurred on average eight times per day.

Since 2006, the OCHA have recorded over 9,600 attacks of this kind. 1,500 of these have occurred just in the current year, accounting for about 15% of the total attacks, indicating a sharp increase in violence against Palestinians in recent months, it noted.

The West Bank, home to approximately 2.7 million Palestinians, is essential with regard to creating an independent Palestinian state.

This is while, the Israeli authorities in reaction to the recognition of the State of Palestine by Western countries, have rapidly moved to expand settlements in Palestinian areas.

According to UN Security Council Resolution 2334, settlements in territories occupied during the Six-Day War (1967) are illegal, and the majority of countries support this resolution.

The UN reports show that, 42 Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank since the beginning of the current year.

However, the representation of the Israeli regime at the United Nations has not yet commented on or responded to the Reuters report.
