07.11.2025
On Thursday, November 6th, Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, had a meeting with Radmila Shekerinska, NATO Deputy Secretary General, as part of the NATO Industry Forum, which takes place in Bucharest on November 5th and 6th.
The meeting agenda focused on topics of major interest, with an emphasis on strengthening the deterrence and defence posture on NATO's Eastern Flank, the security situation near Romania's borders, and the defence industry.
Thus, the two officials stressed the importance of continued allied support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as well as the need to strengthen the resilience of these partners. An important topic of discussion was "Eastern Sentry", the recent NATO initiative aimed at developing a coherent air defence architecture across the entire Eastern Flank, including Romania, strengthening air defence and increasing allied military presence in the region.
Minister of National Defence and NATO Deputy Secretary General also mentioned the commitments undertaken at the NATO Summit in The Hague, in particular the objective set by the allies regarding the gradual increase of defence budgets to 5% of GDP by 2035, a measure considered essential for consolidating defence capabilities and strengthening the allied posture on the Eastern Flank.
The Black Sea represents an area of strategic interest for the entire Alliance, and cooperation with our partners is essential for ensuring stability. We will continue to invest in our own capabilities, support partners in the Eastern Neighborhood and actively contribute to the security of the Eastern Flank", Minister Moșteanu declared.
Today's meeting emphasized the essential role of developing the defence industry, both at national and allied levels, as a strategic tool for providing the capabilities needed to counter threats in an unstable and unpredictable security environment.
The two officials have highlighted that investments in the production, modernization and innovation of defence technologies represent an indispensable condition for supporting allied operations, strengthening resilience and increasing the ability to face the emerging challenges.
