Iran has reiterated continued support for Sudan's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity as rampant violence retains its grip on the North African nation.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the remarks to Sudanese counterpart Mohiuddin Salem during a telephone conversation on Friday.

The former especially expressed concern about the recent attacks and killings of civilians in the city of El Fasher in southwestern Sudan.

The city has emerged as the new epicenter of global concern amid a sharp escalation in Sudan's prolonged conflict, marking a fresh phase of violence, siege, and mass displacement across North Darfur.

On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei voiced deep concern over ongoing armed clashes in El Fasher, condemning the destruction of infrastructure and the killing of civilians in the city. He also warned against moves that could once again fragment Sudan, stressing the importance of upholding the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

After an 18-month siege that trapped nearly 1.2 million civilians, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Sunday that they had captured the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF)'s final stronghold in El Fasher.

Last month, the United Nations said conflict-driven crisis in Sudan had intensified in the first half of the year, citing a significant rise in civilian killings, including summary executions, amid growing ethnic violence and a worsening humanitarian situation.

During the phone call, the Sudanese official provided a report on the latest developments in his country, while expressing appreciation for the Islamic Republic's support for the nation's legitimate government and its solidarity with the Sudanese people.

Both officials, meanwhile, welcomed progress in bilateral relations and emphasized the determination of the two nations to expand cooperation in various fields.
