Chiefs of Defence of the Baltic countries met in Tallinn

On Friday, October 31, a two-day meeting of the Chiefs of Defence of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania concluded with signing a joint declaration.
"Solid allied relations and a unified increase of defence readiness are critical in the constantly changing security environment where we operate today. Although there is no imminent and direct military threat towards the countries of our region, we still need to act today, and do everything possible to prevent the threat from materializing in the future," said Lieutenant General Andrus Merilo, Commander of Estonian Defence Forces. "The meeting clearly proved that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are developing their defence capabilities in an aligned, rapid and decisive manner. Considering also the Allied presence and commitment to the defence of the region, Estonian people can feel safe today."
During the meeting, delegations introduced recent developments in the defence capability of each country, and discussed the current state and future possibilities of defence cooperation. Additionally, continuation of support to Ukraine, and regional security were discussed.
The meeting concluded with signing of a joint declaration, aimed at increasing future cooperation. Among other topics, improving targeting procedures and regional military logistics were decided.
Meeting of the three Chiefs of Defence was part of a routine format. Similar meetings are held every year in each of the three countries.
