Command Strike Force Training Atlantic Changes Leadership

NORFOLK (NNS) -- Commander, Strike Force Training Atlantic (CSFTL) held a change of command ceremony at Norfolk Naval Station Feb. 2.
Rear Adm. Garry R. White took the reins from Rear Adm. Donald P. Quinn.
During the brief ceremony, White, who reports to CSFTL from a tour on the chief of naval operations staff in Washington, as director, Total Force Requirements Division, said he believes the hard work of CSFTL Sailors pays off in added benefit to the fleet.
"I am truly impressed with the quality of training this staff provides to Atlantic Fleet deploying strike groups. Our efforts will continue to ensure our nation's naval forces deploy with all the tools necessary to succeed across the entire range of military operations," said White.
The Utica, N.Y., native was raised in the suburb of New Hartford, where he graduated from New Hartford High School in June 1973. After attending the State University of New York, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science in May 1977.
White participated in Aviation Reserve Officer Candidate Training in 1976 and received his commission on Feb. 10, 1978. He commanded the USS George Washington (CVN 73) from August 2004 through December 2006.
Quinn will take over as commander for Navy Personnel Command, in Millington, Tenn.
CSFTL is responsible for all the training of the deployable carrier and expeditionary strike groups in the Atlantic Fleet and headquartered at Naval Station Norfolk.
