43rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron [43rd AES]

The 43rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron is the only active-duty tactical evacuation team in the Air Force.

The Squadron was originally designated as the 1st Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron in 1951. It was redesignated as the 23rd AES in November 1994 and as the 43rd AES in April 1997.

The unit is tasked with treating patients, but only to stabilize them for air evacuation.

The unit is usually located close to the airstrip, as it has no specific aircraft assigned to it and must therefore use opportune airlift when necessary.

During off-time, the 43rd AES perform anywhere from four to 12 training flights a month and go through field and chemical training once every three months.
