2nd Battalion - 135th Aviation Regiment
The 2nd Battalion, 135th (Light Utility Helicopter) Aviation first came to the Colorado Army National Guard in the mid 1970s as Company D, 40th Aviation Battalion (Attack Helicopter). The Company belonged to it's higher headquarters, 2nd Battalion, 40th Aviation in California. It was originally equipped with UH-1M Huey Gunships and OH-6A (Light Observation Helicopter) scout aircraft. By 1985, the AH-1 Cobra had replaced the obsolete "Mike" Model and ultimately the OH-6A was replaced by the OH-58A Kiowa. In 1993, the Colorado Army National Guard changed its mission from the attack role to the LUH (Light Utility Helicopter) concept. The unit turned in all it's Cobra and Kiowa aircraft in exchange for the UH-1H Huey.
