1079th Garrison Support Unit
The 1079th Garrison Support Unit's mission is to mobilize and deploy to Fort Dix, N.J. to help ensure rapid and smooth deployments of other units mobilizing for overseas duty. The 1079th, commanded by Col. Emil H. Philibosian, augments Fort Dix's power projection platform by supporting Fort Dix's staff, providing command and control for mobilizing units and personnel, conducts strategic operations and processing mobilized units.
During 1999, more than half the soldiers of the 1079th's roster spent time supporting Fort Dix in handling two major military operations. Soldiers from the unit helped process troops for hurricane-ravaged Central America in Joint Horizon's I and II. And 1079th personnel supported post operations in many varied ways during Operation Provide Refuge. Personnel from the 1079th received many citations for their numerous contributions of support for the refugees from Kosovo during the mission.
