The Offices of the Secretary General of CESIS
(Executive Committee for the Intelligence and Security Services)
Segreteria Generale del Cesis
The Office of the Secretary General is the link which filters intelligence collected by the intelligence sector and conveys it, organically and without delay, to the political Authorities, which use it to take the relevant appropriate decisions. Thus, the President of the Council of Ministers exercises his powers to direct uniformly the activities of the Services and to accomplish coordination.
The Office of the Secretary General of CESIS enables the President of the Council of Ministers to carry out a unified political direction of the Services.
The Secretary General of CESIS has the task of channelling all information provided by the Services, to coordinate and direct personnel, and to act as a link between the international and national intelligence bodies. Currently, the Secretary General of CESIS is delegated by the President of the Council of Ministers to carry out the functions of National Security Authority. To this end, an overt structure named Central Security Office (UCSI) has been established within the Office of the Secretary General of CESIS to support him, as National Security Authority, in enforcing the protection of State secrets. Among other things, this structure authorizes individuals, organizations and companies to deal with classified information.
Moreover, the Office of the Secretary General of CESIS plays an important role as the interface between the intelligence sector and the other Public Administrations.
