Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on his visit to Ukraine. They discussed Lithuania's support to Ukraine, current security challenges faced by the war-torn country, and other most relevant running issues.
Minister assured President Zelenskyy of enduring and steadfast Lithuania's commitment to Ukraine.
"It is symbolic that 12 years ago today, November 21, Maidan, or the Revolution of Dignity, was born in Ukraine. Ukraine is battling today to safeguard the dignity, sovereignty and lives of its peoples. Yes, they have internal issues, but it is the institutions of the sovereign Ukraine that pinpoint and resolve them. If we fall for some pretence to walk away from Ukraine, we will pay multifold. Russia is capable of not just replenishing but also further developing and modernizing its military capabilities. Ukraine is still showing a heroic will to resist. It is defence of our dignity a well. Of our right to live - safely and freely," said Minister of National Defence R. Kaunas.
Other topics discussed were cooperation in the area of defence industry and Lithuanian-Ukrainian experience exchange. Minister R. Kaunas pointed out the importance of the lessons learned from Ukraine and the necessity to learn from some of it.
Minister also familiarized President of Ukraine with the challenges Lithuania was faced with, including the disruptions caused by the smuggling balloons. They also addressed the potential peace deal, negotiations, and Ukraine's approach to this development.
