Ukraine's Foreign Ministry turns down humanitarian aid from Russia
29 May 2014, 21:53 -- Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has turned down an official note of the Russian Foreign Ministry asking for permission to provide humanitarian aid to residents of Ukraine's eastern regions.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said Moscow should better 'focus on satisfaction of numerous requests for humanitarian aid from the residents of the Republic of Crimea.'
Kiev dubbed Russia's aspiration to help civilians suffering from the military operation in the country's east as 'another element of propaganda.'
'On May 28, the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation sent a note to the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine, attracting attention of the Ukrainian authorities to the fact that Russia has been repeatedly receiving requests from citizens and organizations from the conflict zone in Ukraine's eastern regions where many people are killed and many are wounded in combat operations,' the Russian ministry said. '(Russia) has been requested to provide urgent humanitarian aid, first and foremost of medication and medical goods.'
'Russia is ready to provide the population in those regions with everything needed, and asked Ukraine to take necessary steps for ensuring urgent deliveries of Russian humanitarian aid to conflict-hit regions in the shortest term possible,' the Russian note underscored.
Moscow sends note to Kiev urging to send humanitarian aid to east Ukraine regions
Moscow calls on Kiev to ensure that humanitarian aid is provided to the eastern regions of Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has sent its Ukrainian counterparts a note 'which points out to the Ukrainian side that Russia has been receiving urgent requests from individuals and organizations based in the conflict zone in the eastern Ukrainian regions, where hostilities led to human casualties and multiple injuries, asking to provide immediate humanitarian aid, primarily medications and medicinal drugs,' the ministry said on its website.
'Given the emergency nature of the current situation, the Russian side hopes for the swiftest possible reply from the Ukrainian side to this request,' the Russian Foreign Ministry said, Interfax reports.
'It was emphasized that the Russian side is ready to provide the population in these regions with the required assistance and therefore proposes to the Ukrainian side that necessary measures be taken within the shortest possible period to ensure the immediate delivery of Russian humanitarian aid to the regions affected by the conflict,' the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
'Specific itineraries and transportation conditions for such humanitarian aid, the note says, could be agreed upon on a routine basis between the relevant Russian and Ukrainian government departments,' the statement said.
