Taipei, March 7 (CNA) China has set up six guided missile brigades along its southeastern coast and now has 784 guided missiles targeting Taiwan, according to the latest data released Tuesday by the Ministry of National Defense.
The missiles are the Dongfeng 11 and Dongfeng 15 tactical missiles, said military intelligence officer Chen Chang-hua during a regular news briefing.
The Dongfeng 11 missiles, which have a range of 600 km and a payload of 600 kg, are deployed in four of the brigades located in Jinhua in Zhejiang Province, Yungan and Xianyou in Fujian Province, and Meizhou in Guangdong Province, Chen said.
The Dongfeng 15 missiles, which have a range of 600-800 km, are deployed in two brigades located in Leping and Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province, he went on.
He said both types of missile are mobile and can be moved to cover the whole of Taiwan.
Owing to the continued increase in China's defense spending, the production volume of its tactical missiles has soared from 50 per year to between 75 and 100 per year, while the accuracy of the missiles has also improved from within 600 meters to within 50 meters, he said.
After being fitted with special warheads, the Dongfeng 15 missiles are capable of launching five waves of non-stop attack on Taiwan for 10 hours, with possible targets including airport runways, power plants and logistics facilities, he said.
