Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the recent remarks on Taiwan by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi are extremely dangerous, and Japan should deeply reflect on history and learn from the lessons of World War II. Zakharova made the remarks in an interview with China's Xinhua News Agency on Tuesday in Moscow.
Zakharova said that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. She pointed out that a series of commemorative events around the world serve as reminders for people to never forget history and to draw lessons. Takaichi must bear in mind the lessons of history, especially by confronting the dishonorable part of Japan's own past.
Zakharova emphasized that the war of aggression launched by Japanese militarism brought profound disasters to Asia and the world, and also inflicted heavy costs on Japan itself.
In the interview, she urged Japanese political figures, including Takaichi, to engage in deep reflection on history and to remain vigilant against the serious consequences that could arise from erroneous words and actions.
