MOSCOW, April 18 (RIA Novosti) - More than 30 surface ships and submarines are taking part in large-scale naval exercises in Russia's Far East, the press service of the Pacific Fleet said Tuesday.

During seven-day maneuvers that started Monday off the Kamchatka Peninsula, naval groups will practice interoperability in simulated combat operations with more than 10 aircraft and coastal defense troops.

The exercises include direct artillery fire practices, missile and torpedo launches, anti-submarine warfare missions, troops transport and beach landing.

Norway-based environmental group Bellona says the Russian Pacific Fleet operates about 20 nuclear submarines based near Vladivostok and on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
