RIA Novosti
05/08/2005 14:30 MOSCOW, August 5 (RIA Novosti) - The deep-sea submersible stricken near the Kamchatka peninsula in the Russian Far East is in normal technical condition, the Pacific Fleet headquarters said.
A spokesman for the company that built the vessel said earlier that it was due for repairs in November. The fleet was aware of this need and agreed to take the vessel to a dockyard in Nizhny Novgorod in November, the spokesman added.
The headquarters said similar AS-28 vessels were also involved in the rescue operation of the Kursk submarine that sank in the Barents Sea in August 2000.
These vessels are designed for deep-sea rescue and observation.
