AIR FORCE AND AIRBORNE TROOPS EXERCISE TO BE CONDUCTED IN RYAZAN AND IVANOVO REGIONS

MOSCOW, March 23 (RIA Novosti) - On March 24, during a joint command-post exercise (CPX) of the Air Force (RusAF) and Airborne Troops, crews of the Komsomolsk Transylvania military transport air regiment are to airdrop paratroopers of the 106th Airborne Division at the Zhitovo drop zone in the Ryazan Region, the RusAF commander, Gen. Vladimir Mikhailov, told the media on Wednesday.

"Il-76 airlifters will fly about 16 missions and airdrop about 950 paratroops and 12 vehicles and associated cargo. Su-24, Su-25 and Su-27 warplanes and Mi-24 attack helicopters are to be involved in preparing and covering the drop zone," Gen. Mikhailov said. "March 25 will see live attacks against ground and aerial targets at the Dubrovichi training area, with the paratroops honing their offensive and defensive skills."

"In all, over 40 missions are to be flown by Il-76, Su-24, Su-25, Su-27 and MiG-29 warplanes and Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters in the exercise in the Ryazan Region," the general said.

He added that eight Il-76 airlifters of the Berlin military transport air regiment would airdrop more than 500 paratroops and six combat vehicles and associated cargo at the Chernorechenskaya drop zone in the Ivanovo Region on March 24.
