MOSCOW BORDER GUARD UNIT TO PASS UNDER TAJIK COMMAND BEFORE APRIL'S END

DUSHANBE, March 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russian border guards will pass the Moscow unit's stretch of the Tajik-Afghan frontier to Tajik soldiers before April's end, formalities starting, April 1, reports Tajikistan's State Frontier Guard Committee.
The stretch will come over to Tajik jurisdiction complete with checkpoints, outposts and strongpoints. The other Russian-guarded frontier stretch, the Pyandzh, will go over to Tajik jurisdiction before end of May. The two stretches have a total length of 454 kilometers.
The Badakhshan frontier stretch, more than 800 kilometers long, was the first to pass under Tajik guard -November through December last.
A total 22 strongpoints and 25 outposts with the entire infrastructure plus three checkpoints are to come over to Tajikistan.
Russian soldiers and experts will carry on consulting Tajik border guards. Alliance will survive to protect outer CIS frontiers. The two services will together blueprint and implement measures against illegal migrations, and fight arms, munitions, explosives and radioactive materials smuggling and drug trafficking.
Tajik soldiers intend to guard single-handed the south frontier, 1,330 kilometers long, starting July next, added our informant.
