BLACKSEAFOR GETTING READY FOR JOINT EXERCISES

TBILISI, February 22 (RIA Novosti) - Navy representatives of the BLACKSEAFOR member states met for a conference in Tbilisi today. They are discussing the issue of joint exercises to take place on April 4-27 this year, Georgia News agency learned in the Georgian Defense Ministry press center.
"The BLACKSEAFOR exercises will begin in Istanbul, Turkey, and end in Constanca, Bulgaria," Deputy Chief of Staff of the Georgian Navy Georgy Kveselava told journalists.
The BLACKSEAFOR group was set up in 2001 for clearing up the consequences of natural disasters and man-made catastrophes in the Black Sea region, demine water bodies, protect the environment, and search for and rescue sinking vessels.
The group, which consists of Turkey, Russia, Georgia, Rumania, Bulgaria and Ukraine, holds exercises every year.
Georgia took over the command of the BLACKSEAFOR group in August 2004.
