PUTIN DEMANDS PROPOSALS ON SERVICEMEN'S PAY RAISE

RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, February 7 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Putin has given the finance and defense ministers a week to prepare proposals on the increase of servicemen's money allowance.

"I am requesting you to speed up the solution of this issue in terms of the volume, the time limits and the methods of solving this problem," the President of Russia told a government meeting on Monday.

Vladimir Putin instructed Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin to submit within a week together with Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov respective proposals first to the head of the government and then to the President.

"At some government meeting on Monday we discussed the need to raise the money allowance of servicemen and I requested the ministers to prepare respective proposals," the head of state said.

"The government's materials, which I have looked through, and the discussions in the mass media indicate that the decision has not been prepared yet," added Vladimir Putin.

The head of state refused to listen to the commentaries by the finance minister. "There must be no commentaries. Do it within a week," the President said sharply.
