SERGEI IVANOV REFUTES INFORMATION ON MASS DISCHARGES IN ARMED FORCES IN CONNECTION WITH BENEFITS ISSUE

RIA Novosti

PESCHANKA SETTLEMENT (Chita Region), February 4 (RIA Novosti) -Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov refuted information on mass discharges in the Russian Armed Forces in connection with the replacement of benefits by cash payments.
"There are no letters, no reports about discharges," he said and added that some misunderstandings, which occurred in connection with the replacement of the transportation benefits by cash additions to the servicemen's pay, have already been settled.
According to the Minister, on the whole, the Armed Forces calmly regard the replacement of some of the servicemen's benefits by cash payments.
"Far from all benefits were monetized, many benefits for the servicemen remain intact," the Minister recalled.
Mr. Ivanov holds the view that the political decision to reform the system of benefits was correct. He expressed this opinion speaking in Chita before the report by commander of the Siberian military district (SibVO), Colonel-General Nikolai Makarov.
"Contacting servicemen directly, I made sure once more that the political decision to reform the system of benefits was correct," he said.
According to the Minister, the advantages of the replacement of the benefits by payments, as a result of which the servicemen's family budget was replenished with additional financial resources, manifested themselves with particular clarity in Siberia and the Trans-Baikal area, where there is quite a number of remote garrisons.
