MOSCOW, February 1 (RIA Novosti) - Secretary of the Russian Security Council Igor Ivanov calls difficult the situation with the national security of Russia, reports press service of the Security Council.
"The situation remains difficult," Mr. Ivanov said on Tuesday during the roundtable meeting on the development of the principles of the National Security Strategy of Russia.
Mr. Ivanov pointed out that the problems of Russian economy have a systemic character.
"We need to make a cardinal reassessment of the entire model of Russia's economic policy on the basis of further development of institutes of the market economy," the Security Council's secretary believes.
"The solution of this problem, which has a political rather than economic character, will largely determine the success of the struggle against poverty, a social phenomenon that still exists in our country," Mr. Ivanov emphasized.
Terrorism is becoming a major destabilizing factor of the socio-political situation in Russia, the official underlined.
"We must realize what lies beyond the sphere of state and public security. The breeding grounds for terrorism are, primarily, factors of socio-economic, regional and humanitarian nature and also the transformation of international politics into an arena and an instrument of global competition," he stressed.
In the context of the threat to national security Mr. Ivanov also mentioned the disproportional development of the regions and the aggravation of ecological and demographic problems.
"From the political perspective, we discern an obvious growth of social distrust toward power structures and state institutions," Mr. Ivanov said.
"In general, the task of developing a targeted and interrelated vision of strategic goals in the administration of the state and creating a mechanism of complex and long-term planing of the national development strategy is becoming more and more urgent," he emphasized.
