Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

Agency's anti-Iran claims made under US pressure, legally worthless

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Ahmadinejad in interview with Dutch News agency, NOVOA:

Tehran, Sept 9, IRNA -- IRI president criticized agency’s politicizing of Iran’s nuclear issue, arguing here Wednesday they are politically speaking uttering “worthless” claims; Iran’s cooperation with IAEA has been maximal, would continue in future.

According to an IRNA Political Desk Wednesday night news item, the information website of the IRI President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad quoted Ahmadinejad as stressing in response to the question “Why is Iran not after manufacturing nuclear weapons under such conditions that Israel and some of Iran’s neighbors have it?” “The Islamic Republic of Iran believes the atomic bomb is the ugliest, most inhumane weapon ever made by man in the course of history,” replied Ahmadinejad.

The president further reiterated, “Iran is apposed to the a-bomb from two different angles; firstly because it is a horrendous weapon of mass destruction whose existence is against the entire human values and secondly, because the international relations are needless of the bomb and the bomb is not only incompetent within them, but also tension building.”

Ahmadinejad said, “The Iranian nation is after the idea of disarming the nuclear powers; how then can it be meanwhile after acquiring the nuclear bomb?”

The IRI president also posed the question: “Why did the global disarmament never really happen?” He himself answered, “That was because the guardians of the disarmament movement are the owners of the atomic bombs, and quite naturally those who have the a-bombs would never agree with true disarmament.”

Ahmadinejad added, “Iran feels no threat from the atomic bombs at the disposal of its enemies, because we know no one is able to use them. Therefore, we are both opposed to the existence of the atomic bombs, and we believe they are incompetent in problem solving in the world.”

In response to a question on Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA, the president said, “Although the type of cooperation must be within a certain framework, but Iran has even cooperated more than that framework, the reached agreements, and the laws, but they sometimes have demands from Iran that are far beyond the entire regulations. Clearly, those demands are breaching the rules and the agency’s letter of establishment, too, does not permit them to do so. These moves are politically motivated and, done under the pressure of some governments, and are legally unbinding.”

Ahmadinejad reiterated, “Beyond doubt, if Iran were a member of the UN Security Council the IAEA chief would have presented no reports about our nuclear activities. For example, the United States that possesses thousands of a-bombs and has been held responsible for decreasing their number has been subjected to no inspections so far and they, too, have not cooperated with the agency at all, even an inspection in one single occasion. But the agency’s chief does not dare to speak about them.”

He added, “The agency’s chief makes certain claims against our country under the pressure of the US administration, without presenting any proof for his claims. Therefore, such claims are merely regarded as political, and are devoid of any legal base.”

The reporter asked about the IAEA role regarding Iran. The IRI president replied, “In accordance with Article 5 of the agency’s letter of association they are obliged to provide assistance for the peaceful, nuclear programs, and also to present legal assistance, but they have not only never assisted us in accordance with the laws, and instead over imposed pressure against us. They even publish biased and double-edged reports.”

Ahamdinejad reiterated, “Today, everyone in the world knows that the agency’s stands are adopted under the political pressure of the UNSC permanent members and one of the reasons why they still have not been able to disarm the world countries of nuclear weapons is the same thing. After the establishment of the agency a number of countries acquired their Atomic bombs after the establishment of the agency. This means the agency has been unsuccessful in pursuing its activities. That is because any of those countries that became atomic were supported by one UN Security Council member. Therefore, the agency is not performing its duties competently.”

In response to a question regarding the extent of Iran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency the president said, “The agency’s cameras are installed at entire nuclear facilities of Iran and the entire nuclear materials that are transported in Iran, even as small scale as 100 grams, are controlled by the agency and transported after acquiring permit from them. When some people claim that Iran has not cooperated with the agency sufficiently, they should define what they mean by the extent of cooperation and what they mean by sufficiency, and they should do that within the framework of the laws.”

The president added, “Those who claim so must clarify which of its duties and commitments Iran has breached? There is definitely no such thing. The agency had six major questions from Iran and Iran has legally and officially answered all of them and we have received the agency’s official confirmation for that, which is also stated in the one of the agency’s reports.”

He reiterated, “The US administration has put forth claims against Iran under such conditions that in accordance with the agency’s regulations the IAEA members cannot legally accuse one another of anything. Yet, the agency quite illegally refers to those claims. No IAEA member is allowed to file suits against any other member, but the agency ignores its own rules and regulations under political pressure.”

The IRI president said, “Iran’s nuclear problem is not the lack of sufficient cooperation, as based on western officials’ own confirmations, the main problem is the type of Iran’s relations with the United States. They say since Iran is engaged with America they cannot solve the problem. Today, everyone knows that the Iranian nuclear problem is nothing but a pretext. They have equipped the Zionist regime with nuclear weapons and some countries have become nuclear powers outside the barriers of the agency’s supervision, but they enjoy good relations with the United States and no one protests to their cases. Therefore, the nuclear problem of Iran is merely political. The United States is influential at the agency and resorting to its influence it both imposed pressure against us and against the agency. But the meaning of their moves is not that they are righteous, or that they are acting lawfully.”

In response to a question on the reason why Iran indents to progress in nuclear technology and why it does not import fuel from abroad rather than enriching uranium itself, Ahmadinejad said, “Why must we import it? Beyond doubt passenger plane parts are more important than nuclear fuel. But they do not even sell us those parts. How can we expect them to provide the required nuclear fuel for our country?”

Referring to the fuel needed for Tehran Research Reactor, the president said, “Tehran Research Reactor is a plant with a100 percent humane usage in which radio medicines are manufactured. Today its fuel is getting finished and it has been over one whole year that we have requested the agency to provide fuel for us, but they keep on setting political conditions and pretexts that are contradictory with Iran’s recognized independence and rights, in accordance with the UN Charter. Even when we agreed to present them the fuel that we have enriched for the fuel rods, they said we would give it to you two years from now on condition that you would halt your 20% enrichment, but after the passage of two years, just like the plane parts, they did not deliver the fuel, either! What should we do with our 800.000 patients then?

The president added, “Iran used to have contracts with all these countries, but their cancelled those contracts unilaterally. How can we rest assure that they would deliver fuel to us later on? Today we have this historic experience before us that they easily unilaterally cancel the contracts they have signed and if we intend to complain, we must complain to them themselves. In other words, we must complain from the criminal to the criminal. Therefore, there is no guarantee.”

The reporter asked, “Why are participating countries in sanctions against Iran worried about the nuclear progress of your country? Ahamdinejad replied, “Well, the Iranian nation, too, is worried about their conduct. But worries cannot affect laws, or replace them. The laws must judge between us. Of course they are not worried about our weapons, which are defensive only and we have several times announced this and we have never invaded any other country. When Saddam invaded our country, though, some of these European countries along with the United States that are expressing worries now, supported him. How can we not be worried under such conditions then?

The president emphasizing that the culture of the Iranian nation is what the oppressors are worried about, adding, “The mentality of an Iranian is opposed to oppression, colonialism, wars and aggression, and apposed to the policies of some of these hegemonic and oppressor governments. They wish to occupy Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan and even the Middle East easily and everyone, too, would shut their mouths up about such moves.”

He reiterated, “Today, on what pretext have the European countries come to Afghanistan and what objectives are they pursuing there? Under such conditions should no one feel worried?”

Evaluating the Dutch people, the president said, “I believe the Dutch are good people, like the rest of the world nations, and they like to live by the side of the rest of the world nations at peace and amid friendly conditions. They are hard working people and respect their cultural values and traditions. They are a religious and peace loving people and we, too, love them.”

On remarks made by an anti-Islamic Dutch party leader who has said that the Qur’an should be declared a forbidden book, President Ahmadinejad said, “There have been many leaders throughout history that have tired to annihilate the divine messages, love, and kindness, but they are gone now, while the divine messages, love and kindness have remained. Islam is the religion of brotherhood, peace and security for the entire mankind. Islam is the religion of love, kindness end peace and security for everyone and the religion of justice. I do not think anyone is opposed to the objectives of Islam.”

Ahmadinejad added, “Those that are opposed to Islam are in fact opposed to humanity, justice, love and kindness. We believe we should all respect the freedom of expression and the divine faiths and this is a humane responsibility. If anyone would pave paths other than these, he will not be successful. Of course, the Dutch would not permit anyone to observe extremism, because extremism is hazardous for all sides. It will not be successful.”

The reporter asked about the effect of the anti-Islamic parties in Holland on relations between Holland and Iran, as well as the Islamic world? President Ahmadinejad said, “That depends on the behavior of the Dutch government. If they would act in accordance with justice and mutual respect, they, too, would be respected, and otherwise, we too, would adopt decisions respectively. Observing enmity against the fate of the world Muslims is a mistake, belonging to the past. The people are free to have faiths. Christianity is respected in Iran and the Christians enjoy equal rights with the rest of the nation. The Jews, too, are free in Iran and enjoy equal rights. In fact a humane relation exists among our nation.”

Ahmadinejad reiterated, “I hope the groups in Europe and in Holland would notice that they will not be able to construct a good future if they would resort to anti-religious behaviors now. Of course, it seems as if these anti-Islamic and anti-religious behaviors are conducted under intrigues by the Zionists, because the follower of no monotheist faith can be opposing the followers of any other faith. A Muslim cannot say that he is opposed to Christianity and vise versa. Even a Jew cannot say that he is opposed to Islam and Christianity. That is because the logic behind entire true faiths is the same.”

The president said, “Opposing religions is due to the Zionists’ intrigues, since they are atheists and the only serious anti-religion group. They are opposed to any faith, because the entire faiths invite the mankind to observe brotherhood, friendship and lenience. But they invite the people under their hegemony and their friends to wage wars. They are opposed to every religion, because the authentic religions only invite to peace, so they are faithless and opposed to all faiths. Today they say Islam, if tomorrow the Christians would oppose them they would plot against the Christians. Today, there are a huge number of Jews in the world that are opposed to the Zionists. The Zionists, too, are opposed to them.
