West's efforts to persuade China to support Iran sanctions ineffective: Spokesman
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, March 16, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said here on Tuesday that western countries’ pressure on China to support new sanctions against Iran was ineffective.
He made the remarks in his weekly news briefing in response to a question on Iran’s stance on British Foreign Minister’s trip to China to convince it to support Iran sanctions.
Underlining that China is an independent and influential country at the international level, Mehmanparast noted that Tehran-Beijing ties indicate excellent collaboration between the two countries.
All the measures have targeted Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, he said, noting that since nuclear knowledge is indigenous nobody can block its development.
The West accuses Tehran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, while Iran strongly denies it.
Tehran says its nuclear program is aimed at making nuclear fuel for civilian purposes, particularly generating electricity for its growing population.
