Ahmadinejad hails Venezuela's vote in IAEA

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sept 28, IRNA
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed Venezuela's "brave and judicious" vote against the EU-proposed resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors on Saturday.

Talking to his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez by phone on Tuesday, Ahmadinejad thanked the South American country for its bold support for Iran's legitimate right to gain access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. The vote, the Iranian president said, shows the depth of the two countries' brotherly and friendly ties.

Ahmadinejad further noted Venezuela's efforts to rally South American states on the side of Iran's legitimate activities to develop nuclear technology and said this has led to a wider debate in the international arena on the rights of suppressed nations.

He referred to the IAEA resolution as a violation of all IAEA rules and regulations and stressed that his country will never accept anything which ignores international law.

Chavez, for his part, expressed his confidence Iran will successfully overcome the current crisis pertaining to its nuclear program like it did in the past.

He said Ahmadinejad's proposal in his speech delivered at the UN Security Council on Iran's nuclear activities was an ideal for countries to follow in the future, and said his country would continue to powerfully stand by Iran on the issue.
