Clinton, Lavrov to discuss North Korean situation
21:5325/05/2009 WASHINGTON, May 25 (RIA Novosti) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov plan to discuss North Korea's nuclear test on Monday, the U.S. State Department said.
North Korea's underground nuclear test has been met by a wave of condemnation from countries around the world, with several leaders calling for sanctions.
Pyongyang announced the bomb test earlier on Monday, and South Korean media said three surface-to-air missiles were launched soon afterwards. The tremor from the nuclear blast was detected in several countries.
Earlier on Monday, Clinton discussed the situation with the Japanese and South Korean foreign ministers, and is also set to hold talks with her Chinese counterpart.
The United States and France have called for action to be taken against Pyongyang, while Russia and China have urged for a return to dialogue. North Korea pulled out of six-nation talks on its denuclearization last month.
