Washington, July 19 (CNA) The U.S. Department of Defense published its latest report on China's military build-up Tuesday, saying that China has deployed some 650-730 mobile CSS-6 and CSS-7 short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) to garrisons opposite Taiwan and deployment of these systems is increasing at a rate of about 100 missiles per year.

The annual Pentagon report noted that China has continued to deploy its most advanced systems to military regions directly opposite Taiwan.

These newer versions of mobile SRBMs, featuring improved range and accuracy, represent significant improvements from the older, less capable hardware that remains the bulk of China's inventory, the Pentagon report indicated.

To realize the potential of the technologically advanced equipment, China's armed forces are attempting to integrate these advanced weapon systems into its force structure, develop modern tactics, and improve training and exercises, the report said.
