Washington, June 16 (CNA) United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Thursday that the U.S. has growing concerns over China's military modernization.
Replying to questions raised at a State Department special briefing on an upcoming trip she will make to the Middle East and Europe, Rice said there is a rising concern about military modernization in China. "While we recognize and believe very strongly that the goal of everyone has to be to integrate China as fully into the international system as possible and to try and create conditions in which China is a positive force, it is also entirely appropriate to be concerned that there is a major military escalation of China's capability," she noted.
She also expressed Washington's concern over Israel's supply of military technology to China and claimed that Israel has the responsibility to be sensitive to these concerns.
The U.S. has a close defense cooperation with Israel, Rice stressed, adding that it also has the primary responsibility for defense in the Pacific.
