Narrative and Notes
  • "Muscle" hijacker who assisted in the takeover of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed into a field in Pennsylivania after its passengers fought back against the hijackers.
  • Muscle hijackers Ahmed al-Ghamdi, Saeed al-Ghamdi, Hamza al-Ghamdi and Ahmed al-Haznawi all came from a cluster of three towns in the isolated al Bahah region of Saudi Arabia, and they shared a tribal affiliation.
  • Spent time in Saudi Arabi's al-Qassim province, the heart of strict Wahabism in Saudi Arabia, and dropped out of university and broke with his family. Regarded as devout Muslim.
  • He told his family he was going to fight in Chechnya.1
  • The four from the Bahah region many have known each other from as early as the fall of 1999.
  • Tawfiq bin Attash claims he persuaded Saeed to become a martyr and to recruit Ahmed al-Ghamdi.
  • There is some documentation suggesting he may have been to a Russian republic.1
