Narrative and Notes
ReliableAttash traveled to Bangkok to meet with two operatives from the Yemen ship-bombing operation, which had suffered a failure a few days earlier in the failed attempt to bomb the Sullivans. Al-Mihdhar and al-Hazmi went with him. A surveillance team, probably Malaysian security working on behalf of the CIA, observed they had left for Bangkok, but the information was not relayed to the CIA in Thailand in time to observe them at the airport. Their trail went cold.1,2
PossibleAl-Mihdhar and al-Hazmi apparently wanted to improve their cover as tourists by obtaining a Thailand stamp on their passports.1
